Washing laundry may not be the most exciting chore for most people, but it can be more enjoyable if you have a good washer and dryer. If you are about to purchase a new set, consider the following.

What kind of space do you have? This may determine whether you get side-by-side units or stackable units. Side-by-side units have some advantages. You can choose a top-loading washer or front-loading washer. Top-loading washers usually have a bigger load capacity, while front-loading are usually more energy efficient. If you choose front-loading units, then you can make a countertop to put over the units. This can provide extra space for folding clothes or storage.

If space is an issue, stackable may be the better option. They have a smaller footprint in your home. Initial purchase and installation costs are greater, but they are energy-efficient. The load capacity is less, but since they are energy-efficient, it helps if you have to wash more loads. With stackable, you are limited to the same brand for the washer and dryer, as they are engineered to fit properly when stacked.
