A radiant heating system is very different from the forced air heating that is common in the US. It heats up an element using either water or electricity. This method also relies on the natural movement of heated air for heating a room. Radiant heat systems are more efficient than forced air systems for a number of reasons.

Since the air isn’t heated, there is less heat loss from windows. The temperature will feel comfortable at a lower setting on the thermostat. You can have different temperatures in different zones of your home, keeping it warmer in areas that are used more. Since there aren’t any ducts, you won’t lose heat in the transfer.

Radiant heat systems are also quiet, can be operated using many different types of fuel, and if they are built-in, they aren’t visible inside your home. Even though it is easier to install the system into the floor or walls when it is a new build, your old home can be retrofitted with a system as well.
