Dog owners have an important responsibility to keep their dogs safe from harm. One way to do this is by making sure your dog cannot run off your property without you knowing. If you are one who likes to let your dog run around off leash on your property, fencing is important. There are physical fences and underground invisible electric fences. Which is better?

Underground invisible fences are liked by some dog owners because of their aesthetic appeal. But there are some cautions. Dogs can run past the fence line. They will get shocked, but they might just want to chase after that car, dog, or human bad enough. If there is an electrical outage or the batteries in your dog’s collar die, the fence will be compromised. Some people believe that the shock the dog receives during learning the limits of the fence line can lead to aggression or fear in the dog.

Physical fences, made from wood, metal, or vinyl are better options. They not only keep your dog safe on your property but keep other dogs from wandering near your dog. Be sure the fence is high enough so your dog cannot jump over it, and make sure it locks securely.
