When it comes to running costs of your home, everyone would appreciate saving money. It is easy to spot the big expenses, but many times, the problem is noticing small drains on your energy that add up costing you a lot of money on your monthly energy bill. One such drain could come from your piping. If your hot water lines aren’t insulated, they could lose over 20% of their heat before they reach the tap. This could translate into a significant expense over time.

Pipes should not be located in your exterior walls, since this is one of the places where you can lose the most energy. Unfortunately, many houses are still built that way. If this is the case in your home, you should not only make sure that the individual pipes are insulated, but also that there is as much insulation as possible between the wall and the pipes. The insulation should however not be packed too tightly since this will actually lower its effectiveness.
